Portuguese-Style Port

This Port-producer is one of the only Portuguese owned Port Houses. I had the pleasure of speaking with Joao Roseira from the quinta at the Toronto 2005 IVP Port Tasting event. Their style of producing Port wine is to make it less sweet than the traditional British-Style Port. Along with being less sweet it is also a lot dryer. This style, according to Joao, allows the taster to really taste the subtleness of the grapes instead of being overpowered by the intense jammyness. This was the first estate to domaine bottle in the Douro, breaking the monopoly of the shippers in the late 1970s. Also, Quinta do Infantado owns only class A vineyards. All of their wines come only from their class A sites!
