None of your port wine will acTually further mature, so they will taste the same today as in 10 years.
The aged Madeira is similar to aged tawny port. The ten years is an average age that the madeira/port has been in the (very) large oak barrel. Once it is removed and bottled, it no longer ages.
LBV port doesn't age in the bottle either.
So to answer your question directly, your bottles will probably last several decades, but they will not change taste. The issues to look for is the cork and the storage conditions.
The longer you wait the more probability of the cork going bad and letting air into the wine and the probability that your storage area's temperature will flucTuate too much and spoil the wine.
I would suggest you drink the 10 year old Madeira anytime, the 1997 LBV with good friends, and the 30 year old Port at Christmas with your favorite family members. | Posted on Oct 22, 2006 By Roy Pereira |
